American Electric Power (AEP)/ recently presented a $3,000 Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP) donation to the Bluefield State College Foundation for scholarship support at BSC.

Terry Hall, AEP District Manager, made the presentation to BSC President Dr. Robert Moore during a brief ceremony at AEP's Bluefield location.

"We are grateful for the continuing support of American Electric Power," noted Dr. Moore. "Their continuing generosity will provide opportunities through higher education for many deserving students we can now serve as a result of their donation. For many years, AEP has committed its time and resources in support of community-focused activities and organizations."

The BSC Foundation, Inc. is a participant in the NIP program, administered through the West Virginia Development Office. Scholarships created through this program will be awarded to low income, disadvantaged individuals to attend BSC. The program has tremendous flexibility, permitting contributions in the form of cash, personal property, real estate, stock, and in-kind professional services. Those who contribute to $500 or more to NIP organizations are eligible to receive up to 50% of the contributed amount in the form of state tax credits.

The credit can be taken in one year or within a five-year period, beginning with the tax year in which the donation is made. NIP tax credits cannot be used to reduce total tax liability by more than 50% annually. NIP tax credits can be used in conjunction with federal tax deductions, greatly reducing the cost of the contribution to the donor.
