Henry, a 1978 graduate of Bluefield State College, received his Master's degree in Educational Administration from the WVU College of Graduate Studies in 1989, then received his Doctoral degree from East Tennessee State University in Higher Education Administration, with a focus on Community College Curriculum/Instruction and Student Development.
A well-known educator, youth sports coach, and athletic official, Henry holds professional affiliations with the Virginia Education Association, Virginia Counselors Association, and Virginia Community College Association, as well as the Association on Higher Education and Disabilities. Additionally, he is a member of the Mid-Eastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel and the National Council of Educational Opportunity Association.
He has more than 20 years' experience as a teacher/counselor, academic coordinator and director, working with students of various ages, as well as disadvantaged youth and adults. Henry has served as Tutorial Coordinator/Academic Skills Counselor, coordinating and supervising the Peer Tutor Program, and has provided numerous academic-issue workshops and seminars.
He represents the state of Virginia on the Mid-Eastern Association of Equal Opportunity Program Personnel's Regional Executive Committee. He has held offices on statewide committees for the Virginia Community College System and has served as chairman of the African-American Concerns Committee and the Student Services Committee.
This year's degree recipients, during the May 11 Associate Degree and the May 12 Baccalaureate Degree programs, comprise the 104th graduating class at Bluefield State College.
