"Kids Kollege" at BSC Begins June 24

Thurman Matney - matney.jpg - 43327 Bytes (BLUEFIELD)–Thurman Matney, son of Mr. Thurman Matney and the late Regina Matney of Iaeger, WV, has been selected as the outstanding freshman in Engineering Technology and Computer Science at Bluefield State College for 2001-02. In recognition of his selection, Matney will receive the "Claude B. Dalton Award" for his outstanding academic performance.

Professor Dalton taught mathematics to BSC Engineering Technology and Computer Science students for more than 20 years. "He was consistently recognized for his ability to reach a broad section of freshman in mathematics," noted Frank Hart, BSC Engineering Technology & Computer Science Division chair. "Graduates frequently comment about how Professor Dalton helped them to succeed in college."

Dalton, who resides in Bluefield, WV with his wife Crystal and son Dylan, is a 1987 graduate of Iaeger High School. At BSC, faculty members fecognize him for his excelleng problem-solving and presention skills. His classmates recognize him as a good "team player," according to Hart.
