(BLUEFIELD)–Landon Blankenship, an Associate Degree Nursing student at Bluefield State College, has been named the 2002 recipient of the "Spirit of Nursing" award. He received the award from BSC Nursing Professor S. Kay Thompson during a brief ceremony at the College.
The "Spirit of Nursing" program, developed by the Army Nurse Corps in collaboration with the National Student Nurses Association, provides accredited schools of nursing with the opportunity to recognize a student who demonstrates a commitment to excellence through his or her community, professional accomplishments, and academic achievements.
Blankenship, who graduated from BSC on May 10, will be working in critical care at Princeton Community Hospital. He is Vice President/Student Nurses Association, co-chair of the curriculum committee for the Wyoming County "School to Work" program, a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, and a substitute Sunday School teacher at Long Branch Freewill Baptist Church.
He is a 1998 graduate of Baileysville High School.
