(BLUEFIELD)–Bluefield State College faculty member Dr. Donald W. Caudill has given $10,000 to the College to establish a service award in memory of the late Brian Delp. Caudill had served as a faculty advisor for Delp, who lost his life in an accident while assisting a stranded motorist. The “Brian A. Delp Service Award” was created through Dr. Caudill’s gift to the BSC Foundation, and a $250 scholarship and plaque will be presented during the College’s graduation exercises each year to honor a student who best exemplifies Delp’s commitment to serving others.
Dr. Caudill discussed the creation of the Delp Service Award with Dr. Felica Blanks, executive director of the BSC Foundation, and officially presented the $10,000 donation to BSC President Dr. Albert Walker and Dr. Blanks during a brief ceremony recently. Dr. Caudill explained that nominations for the Delp Service Award will be accepted through March each year, with the recipient selected by a committee. The BSC Professor of Marketing will not sit on the committee.
Dr. Walker was appreciative of Dr. Caudill’s gift. “It is a very generous act on Dr. Caudill’s part. This is a special gift,” he noted.
