Opening round matchups have been announced for annual Currence Classic and Herbert Sims Memorial basketball events, both of which will take place at the Ned Shott Gym at Bluefield State College, November 29-30.
In the Currence Classic, the Big Blues will play host to West Virginia State at 6 p.m. BSC compiled a 3-24 record a year ago, while the Yellow Jackets finished 2001-02 with a 9-18 mark. The Currence nightcap at 8 p.m. pairs Indiana (PA) University against Concord. The teams dropping opening round decisions will meet at 6 p.m., November 30 in the Currence consolation game, folloowed by the tournament title game at 8 p.m. between the opening night winners.
The annual Herbert Sims Memorial event will utilize a "round-robin"
format this year because one of the teams in the original four college
field dropped out of the event too recently to permit tournament
organizers to find a replacement. On November 29 at 4 p.m., Bluefield
State's Lady Blues face Southern Virginia, and at 4 p.m., November 30,
Southern Virginia meets Point Park (PA) College. The weekend's
basketball action wraps up with a 4 p.m. contest on December 1, with the
Lady Blues playing Point Park.
