BSC Enrollment Jumps More than 11 Percent

Bluefield State College continues to be the fastest growing public college in West Virginia (among all state colleges with an enrollment of more than 200 students). According to figures released recently by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, BSC's enrollment for the Fall 2002 Semester are 11.44% above previous year figures. The enrollment growth was based upon full-time equivalency (FTE) enrollment.

Fourteen of West Virginia's public colleges and universities showed some growth over prior year figures. However, with the exception of Eastern WV Community & Technical College (whose enrollment grew from 46.33 FTE to 161.27 FTE), Bluefield State College was the only West Virginia institution of higher education that enjoyed a double-digit percentage increase.

"We're gratified by the growth in enrollment," noted John Cardwell, BSC's Enrollment Management Director. "There has been an institution-wide focus upon academic excellence and effective student support. Our graduates are getting good jobs. We've got the degree programs that business is buying and the enrollment figures reflect that."

Public colleges in West Virginia experienced an overall enrollment increase of 4.33%.
