The lawn nearest North House hosted the toddler division, while the middle age group used the front lawn of Greenbrier Hall and the "old" 9-12 year age group pursuit the hunt on the lawn near Carnegie Hall West Virginia.
Winners collecting the most eggs were Jamie Nickell Jr., age 4, of Lewisburg, with 23 eggs, Michael Sharp of Ronceverte, the middle age group with 33 eggs, and the older group, Cindy Fuller of Clintonville with 23 eggs.
While the winners got a special prize each, all children received cookies, chips, milk and juice and various other traditional Easter candy in "goodie bags." Another special treat was the appearance by Shoney Bear who greeted the young people and posed for pictures as well as serving as the official starter for the Hunt. Also known as Lydia Treadway of Dawson, Shoney Bear's visit was arranged through the GCCC Student Government Association which sponsored the event.
On Easter Sunday at 6:30 a.m. the Academy Park will be the scene of a community sunrise service featuring the ministers of Shuck Memorial Baptist Church, Edgewood Presbyterian Church, and Old Stone Presbyterian Church and an Easter Egg Hunt is also being hosted on the Academy Park by the Greenbrier Spiritual Community on Saturday, April 19.
Serving Greenbrier, Monroe, Pocahontas, Summers, and parts of Fayette, Nicholas, and Raleigh counties as well as the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia, GCCC is one of four campuses of Bluefield State College and the GCCC SGA which sponsored by Palm Sunday Egg Hunt for the children of GCCC students hosts various social and educational events throughout the year for more than 1000 students attending the Greenbrier Valley’s only undergraduate institution of higher education.
