Terri Baker, coordinator for the Center at GCCC, has offices in the Jefferson Place Office Park, off South Court Street, in Lewisburg where she directs a number of programs to serve the Greenbrier Valley business community.
In November and December, with funding through the State of WV Workforce Development grant and funding through Appalachian Electronics, Inc., of Fairlea, a program began with Appalachian with in house training by Dr. Carolyn Browning of the Center for Economic Enhancement and Terri Baker, CWBD of GCCC.
"This is an on-going training," Baker explained, "We are now working in a "needs assessment" so that we may provide additional training."
January saw the GCCC CWBD provide work keys training for the WV Job Service in Ronceverte with Dr. Browning and Baker again conducting the in house training. "As a result of this training, the WV Job Service can now provide work key assessments for their clients," Baker notes, adding that any questions concerning Work Key Assessments or concerning an assessment completed at an Greenbrier/New River Valley area company, contact the WV Job Service at 304- 647-7415.
Another set of training activities sponsored through the Center for Workforce and Business Development at Greenbrier Community College Center were two separate sessions on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
The HIPAA Awareness Seminar met the HIPAA regulation for general awareness training for all employees who have contact with health information while the HIPAA Implementation Seminars targeted managers, privacy officers and employees responsible for implementing HIPAA privacy policies.
With the training in the GCCC classrooms in Jefferson Office Place, Lewisburg, the sessions were conducted by Annitta Robinson of New Horizons Center, a certified trainer in the program which previously had only been offered in distant locations such as Charleston.
"This allowed area personal to under go the training without having to leave the Greenbrier/New River Valleys," Baker adds.
This program was presented through a partnership between the GCCC Center for Workforce and Business Development, WVU Tech Small Business Development Center; WV Small Business Workforce Training Program and the Greenbrier Valley Economic Development Center.
