"We have all kinds of programs from the machine tool technology to the latest business classes," Dr. David Perkins, director of Greenbrier Community College Center and assistant provost of Bluefield State College, notes, but adds "We are still a liberal arts college with all areas of the arts and sciences in our course offerings."
For 35 years, GCCC has been and for 108 years, Bluefield State College has been the liberal arts college serving southeastern WV and "Today is no exception," Perkins emphasizes.
Offering teacher education, general education, pre-Bachelor's degrees training, GCCC offers such diverse courses as Art 105 Creative Expression, Introduction to Theatre and Theatre Workshops (through a partnership with the Greenbrier Valley Theatre) and this semester is offering the fourth in a series of Humanities classes, Logic, which is described as topics in logic in Humanities 290.
Other special classes being offered during the Spring semester include Planet Earth, a geography/ecology course; Biology 300, Ecology and lab; Regional and Ethnic Literature, taught by Kim King, instructor of English at Eastern Greenbrier Junion High School and popular English adjunct instructor at GCCC.
Also offered this semester are courses ranging from Introduction to Music to Social Classes in America, a special new Sociology course..
The new Sociology 330 course is being taught by Chip Sills, an adjunct faculty member from Monroe County.
