BSC Associate Degree Nursing Program
and Library Receive $20K Grant from UNCF

(BLUEFIELD)–The Bluefield State College Associate Degree Nursing Program and the Library received a $20,000 grant from the United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation as one of four demonstration projects with Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Other schools selected included Albany State University, Howard University, and Norfolk State University.

The purpose of the demonstration projects is to increase awareness and utilization of National Library of Medicine online resources. Dr. Bernadette Dragich, Bluefield State College Professor of Nursing, is principal investigator and is working closely with Robin Shapiro, BSC Systems Librarian.

This proposal allows us to educate future nurses and community individuals about health disparities. "In this information age, we will be able to enhance the knowledge of faculty, staff, and students about the wealth of information available through the National Library Medicine," Dr. Dragich noted. "A consumer website will be developed for our library home page, listing and explaining what consumer health information is available on the National Library of Medicine site." The purpose of this site is to educate the college community and others about a health challenge or procedure.
