At this year’s ISA International Student Games held in Chicago, Bluefield State College students experienced a new challenge to the competition they have entered for the past five years.

The various Districts involved in the ISA Expo 2002 (Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Conference) hold local competitions among its 184 worldwide student sections and send the winners (12 teams) to the games each year.. This year the games took on a new twist when, rather than competing by their district or school, teams were integrated with different nationalities as well as two-year and four-year program students. The purpose of the change from prior years was to allow students the opportunity to interact more and to appreciate the differences in the programs offered by various cultures. It was felt that this would give the students an experience that would more closely emulate those experiences they will have once they enter the real corporate world. Different companies sponsored each of the teams. The student section advisors served as the advisors for the various teams competing.

Clyde Boyles of Bluefield State College was a member of the team that took second place in the All-Star Bowl. This competition consists of on-the-spot questions fielded by the students. Roy Pruett, Associate Professor at Bluefield State was advisor for the team taking third place in the competition.

The teams competing in the 2002 ISA Student Games were from Canada, Italy, Mexico, Russia and the United States. Schools represented were: Bluefield State College, Pennsylvania College of Technology, University of Florida, Northwest Iowa Community College, IPN Zacatenco and ITQ, West Kentucky Tech, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, California Polytechnic University, Catania University, St. Petersburg State University of Airspace Instrumentation and Lambton College.

The Bluefield State College team members were: Anubhaw Bhushan, Clyde Boyles, Shellie Lambert, Derek Mitchem, James Pruett and Ravi Srivastava. Roy Pruett, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering Technology is the student section advisor.
