EMT, Paramedic Program Finalized at
Greenbrier Valley Campus

Final arrangements have been made for the Emergency Medical Technician program to be offered this fall at the Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College. The EMT program is planned to coincide with the Paramedic program being offered at GVC/NRCTC.

"We are offering the EMT program for those who are working on the national certification in the Paramedic program and who do not have the EMT certification," Roger Griffith, director of the Greenbrier Valley Campus, announced, adding "But, we have space available for the general public who are interested in becoming an EMT."

This EMT program will meet two nights a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and classes start August 26, although general registration is August 18-19 for all classes at GVC/NRCTC. Registration will take place on the second floor of Greenbrier Hall on the Greenbrier Valley Campus August 18 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and August 19 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students in the Alleghany Highlands area of Virginia, including selected bordering counties and the cities of Covington and Clifton Forge, can contact Dabney S. Lancaster Community College about the reciprocity agreement between the two neighboring community colleges. This agreement allows certain Virginia students to enroll in select classes and courses of study, including the EMT and Paramedic, at GVC/NRCTC for in state tuition.

Both the EMT and Paramedic programs offer National Certification so the student, upon completion, can be licensed in any state.

"Due to the nature of the studies in the EMT and Paramedic programs, the tuition and fees are organized differently from our tuition and fee chart presented in our general literature," Griffith notes. "Students interested in the programs can telephone our offices for information."

This is the first time in several years the Paramedic program and the EMT programs have been offered in the area, Griffith adds, and "We are offering it in response to requests from the area fire and rescue/first aid departments. The response this semester will determine whether this becomes are permanent part of our course offerings."

For information on the EMT and/or Paramedic programs, or any of the other 42 courses of study offered at GVC/NRCTC, telephone 304-647-6560 or write or visit the GVC at 101 Church Street, Lewisburg, 24901.
