Lisa Lovell - P5160011-LisaLovell.jpg - 110030 Bytes Ms. Lisa Lovell, project director for the Disability Resource Center of Southwestern Michigan and a former BSC student, delivered the commencement address. In her remarks, she credited a counselor at the College 20 years ago with a pivotal moment in her life. "Sally Watson, a counselor, approached me and took an interest in me, asking if I would like to become a student," Lovell said. "This one moment in time changed my life forever. At last I had found the direction and the inspiration I needed. I am forever grateful to Bluefield State College for showing me that I could achieve my goals."

Lovell encouraged graduates to aim high and to follow their dreams. "Live your life with a passion," she added. "You may be just the right inspiration that someone needs to take that first step into higher education. Use your education and life experience for the higher purpose of making the world a better place."

BSC President Dr. Albert Walker extended congratulations to the graduates, their families, and friends. He also paid tribute to the BSC Community Choir, whose three song performance marked the first time in more than 30 years that a choral program had been included in BSC's graduation exercises.

Two hundred students will receive degrees during the baccalaureate commencement. The Graduates of BSC's Class of 2003 join the ranks of BSC alumni, now numbering more than 16,000.
