Leaders in the state and county's largest education organizations addressed a meeting of education majors at Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College. The purpose of the meeting was to reorganize the GVCNRCTC Chapter of the Student Education Association (SEA), the second oldest student organization at the GVC.
Gale Greeway, a education major from Alderson, coordinated the meeting and introduced Randy Auvil, president of the Greenbrier County Education Association, who spoke of the work and protection offered by the NEA/WVEA/CEA organizations and of the Greenbrier County groups commitment to better the education process.
He also introduced Kym Randolph of Charleston, the communications director for the West Virginia Education Association, who explained the benefits of membership in the SEA. Noting that the SEA had been a part of the former Greenbrier Community College since the early 1980's, she announced that the charter for the GCC Chapter would become the charter for the GVCNRCTC Chapter.
Following questions and answers, the members set a new meeting date for the election of officers and recognized the leadership of Chapter sponsor Bob Coston, librarian at GVCNRCTC.
Auvil also promised to continue to work with the GVCNRCTC Library to arrange for up to $100 in funding to provide an educational journal for research purposes to the library for the over 1,000 students at the Greenbrier Valley Campus.
The oldest continuous student organization at the College is the Student Government Association.
