BSC Named One of "America's Best Colleges"
for Fourth Straight Year

(BLUEFIELD)--For the fourth consecutive year, Bluefield State College has been selected as one of "America's Best Colleges" by US News & World Report. The publication bases its annual selection of America's outstanding institutions of higher education on a variety of factors, including academic programs, faculty qualifications, students' success, support, etc. BSC was listed among the best colleges/comprehensive in the nation.

Additionally, BSC continues to enjoy record enrollment growth. After pacing all public colleges (with an enrollment of more than 200 students) in the Mountain State, posting an enrollment growth of 11.44% in 2002, preliminary Fall 2003 Semester enrollment figures point toward an enrollment increase of more than 20% this year.

"We're gratified by the enrollment increases," noted BSC President Dr. Albert Walker. "Our focus upon quality academic programs, 15 of which are nationally accredited, affordability, faculty qualifications, and a student-centered climate are some of the reasons we have grown. We look forward to the future."

"We can offer the degree programs business is buying," added John Cardwell, BSC's Executive Director of Enrollment Management. "We're experiencing growth at the Bluefield campus, in McDowell County, and at the New River Community & Technical College campuses in the Greenbrier Valley, Nicholas County, and Beckley.

Two-thirds of BSC's faculty hold terminal degrees and the College has achieved national recognition for its recent success in student engineering technology competitions, allied health sciences graduates' licensure passage rates, and entrepreneurial initiatives.
