Students in four area high schools have through Sept. 19 to enroll for dual credit in select classes offered at the high schools, but which also earn credit at Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College. GVCNRCTC is administratively linked to Bluefield State College.
Lizabeth Rogers, instructor of Profession Office Systems Technology (POST) and coordinator of the Early Entrance Program at GVCNRCTC, notes that the students enroll in the select classes at the local school and take on extra work to earn the college credit through GVCNRCTC. A $10 recording fee is also assessed per course.
Students attending the Monroe County Technical Center can enroll for the dual credits in the high school courses of Accounting Principles I/II, Business Computer Applications, Advanced Computer Software Applications, Business Computers I, CIM I Engineering Graphics, CIM II Computer Aided Design, CIM III Manufacturing Process and CIM IV CNC/Robotics. Cooperating instructors at MCTC include Rebecca Dillon and David Williams.
At Pocahontas County High School, students can enroll for dual credit through the Early Entrance Program in Culinary Arts II in the fall semester and Business Computers and Theatre I in the Spring semester with these courses being offered through the cooperation of Instructors Linda Van Reenan, L. Stewart and G. Van Reenan of the PCHS faculty.
Greenbrier West High School will be offering as dual credit Accounting Principles I/II, Business Computer Applications/Network Technology, Database Management, Desktop Publishing/Computer Presentations, Office Technology, Fundamentals of Health Care, and Basic Concepts in Health Care. Cooperating instructors include Susan Hutsenpiller, Martha McClung, Norma Cole, and Brenda Brooks.
At Greenbrier East High School, students can enroll in the dual credit program of GVCNRCTC in Advanced Accounting, Business Computer Applications, Advanced Business Computer Applications, Fundamentals of Health Care, Basic Concepts in Health Care, Applied Clinical Concepts, ProStart I/II Lodging and Food Service Industry and Hospitality Supervision. Susan Dixon, Angela Fugate, Kathy Trout and Phyllis Harbert are the cooperating instructors.

Instructor Rogers also stressed that any other school in the area wishing to participate in the dual enrollment, Early Entrance program of GVCNRCTC should also contact her for information.
The Greenbrier Valley Campus of NRCTC serves the Greenbrier, Monroe, Pocahontas, Summers, eastern Fayette and southern and eastern Nicholas counties as well as the neighboring Alleghany Highlands of Virginia as the only undergraduate institution of higher education in the Greenbrier Valley.
