Honorably discharged veterans of any branch of service are eligible to participate in special introductory college classes free of charge through the Veterans Upward Bound program offered through the New River Community and Technical College campuses.
"Any veteran in or around the area served by New River Community and Technical College can sign up for the new classes starting in October on the Greenbrier Valley Campus, Nicholas County Campus, the Beckley/Raleigh County Campus and the Bluefield Campus," says Curtis Pauley who heads the Veterans Upward Bound offices at the Greenbrier Valley Campus, the Beckley/Raleigh County Campus and the Summersville office which serves the Nicholas County Campus.
Free classes and orientation to college are offered to any honorably discharged veteran in computers, math and English.
In addition, the Veterans Upward Bound programs also offer social and cultural events and trips for the participants, and sometimes include the families.
"We want every veteran in central and southeastern WV and the border counties to take full advantage of this program," Pauley concludes.
For information on the program, contact the VUB offices at the Greenbrier Valley Campus, 304-647-6583; the Nicholas County office, 304-872-2006; Beckley/Raleigh County Campus, 304-255-5812 or the VUB main number serving all NRCTC and Bluefield State College campuses at 1-888-428-0485.
