Pam Renick of GVCNRCTC Named to all WV Academic Team

In special ceremonies in the Governor's Reception Room of the WV State Capitol, Pam Renick of Williamsburg, a student at the Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College, was one of thirteen WV students named to the All West Virginia Academic Team by Phi Theta Kappa, the official honor society of two year colleges.

Co sponsored by the two year college presidents and community college state associations, the All WV Academic Team members are automatically nominated to the All USA Academic Team which involves a national competition.

Gov. Bob Wise presented medals and framed certificates to each of the team members and a luncheon was held in honor of the WV Team in the Capitol Rotunda.

Renick was accompanied by her daughter, Jessie Gallion of Williamsburg, Jim Phares of Williamsburg, his son, JC of Beckley, Mr. and Mrs. Benny Renick of Milton, as well as Dr. David Perkins, president of New River Community and Technical College, Michael Palm, director of student services for NRCTC; and Roger Griffith, director of the Greenbrier Valley Campus.

Included in her college activities are membership in the Greenbrier Valley Campus Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa; Student Education Association; a student worker in the GVCNRCTC Library; and a member of the NRCTC Accreditation committee. In her community, she is a member of the Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department, serving as firefighter/safety officer and secretary; board member of the Williamsburg Arts Council and the Williamsburg Community Action Group; vice president of Williamsburg Elementary School PTO and the Williamsburg Elementary School Improvement Council;

She is also a member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church where she sings in the choir; chairperson of the Greenbrier County Emergency Services Training Weekend; co- chairperson of the Williamsburg Community Fair and Committee chairperson and charter organization representative for the Boy Scout Troop 81.

Other members of the WV All Academic Team include Darien Shingleton and Jennifer Bidwell, Fairmont State Community and Technical College; Ashley Fulton and Rebecca Whetstone, Community and Technical College of Shepherd; Jennifer Cartmill and Kimbra Clinton of WV State Community and Technical College; and from WV Northern Community and Technical College, Kara Ann White and Judy Mullins of the Weirton campus; Lisa Riker and Mary Dudley, Wheeling campus; and Judy Thorburn and Belinda Blande of the New Martinsville campus.

Renick will be honored on the Greenbrier Valley Campus during the annual College Awards Dinner at the end of the spring semester.
