BSC Continues to be Fastest-Growing Public College in West Virginia

(Bluefield)—Enrollment at Bluefield State College continues to grow at a faster rate than at any other public college or university in West Virginia. In fact, no other public institution of higher education in West Virginia has matched BSC’s enrollment increase, in terms of both student numbers and percentage growth, based upon the end-of-term/Fall 2003 headcount enrollment just released by the WV Higher Education Policy Commission.

Overall, BSC’s enrollment increase of 26.67%, from end-of-term/Fall 2002 to end-of-term Fall 2003, is nearly twice as great as any other public college or university in West Virginia. Eastern WV Community & Technical College grew at a 13.52% rate over the same period. BSC’s headcount enrollment grew by 816 students over the same period. West Virginia University posted the next largest headcount enrollment increase, 629 students.

Bluefield State College’s enrollment, 3876 students, makes the College the fourth-largest public college in the state. Based upon degree objective, BSC showed a 26.67% increase at the four-year level and 30% at the two year level.

Public colleges and universities in West Virginia posted a cumulative 1.68% increase over the reporting period, with four-year public institutions showing a 4.99% gain and two-year colleges showing a 6.72% decline.
