The display, the work of Joan Browning of Ronceverte who worked actively in the civil rights movement in the 1960's and continues her work today, provides a look at "some copies of original documents dealing with slavery and the Jim Crow laws," Wanda Johnson, program coordinator of Multi Cultural education at GVCNRCTC.
In addition to the display, Dr. Raphael Heaggans, director of Multi Cultural education at Bluefield State College will speak Feb. 24 in the Student Activity Center on the first floor of Greenbrier Hall, the main classroom and office building for GVCNRCTC. The 3 p.m. program is free of charge and is open to the public, Johnson adds.
On Feb. 5, Norman Jordan of Ansted was scheduled to portray Dr. Carter G. Woodson, an noted African American Historian, in a convocation in the Student Activities Center to open the GVCNRCTC's Black History Month observance.
