State Higher Ed Report Card Reflects Favorably on NRCTC

Information from the Higher Education Report Card provided the WV Legislative Oversight Commission on Education Accountability Monday reflects favorably on state's newest community and technical college, the New River Community and Technical College with its Greenbrier Valley Campus, Nicholas County Campus, Beckley/Raleigh County Campus and the Bluefield State College Campus.

According to the report card, WV college going rate for the state high school graduates is finally equal to the national rate of 56.5 per cent.

"With New River (Community and Technical College) in its first year and this statistic based on this year, we certainly must conclude that we are playing a major role in education WV high school graduates and in making a college education not only possible, but affordable," notes Roger Griffith, director of the Greenbrier Valley Campus.

But another brilliant spot for the state's newest community and technical college which is administratively linked to Bluefield State College is the graduating rate for BSC. "With Bluefield State leading all state colleges and universities with a 64 per cent graduation rate, we conclude that our programs are working and working well for the benefit of the students," Griffith added, noting that the former Beckley Center and Greenbrier Community College Centers were previously long time campuses of Bluefield State College.

"We look forward to working with the area high schools to provide a good college education for the graduates and then provide every possible support so that the college student can reach his or her educational goal," Griffith adds.

Information on programs of study offered by the Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College can be obtained by telephoning 304-647-6560 or writing or visiting the campus at 101 Church Street, Lewisburg, WV 24901.

The Beckley/Raleigh County Campus is located in the Industrial Park at the Harper Road Exit of I-64 and I-79 while the Nicholas County Campus is at U.S. 19 North and Webster Rd. in Summersville.
