New Classes, Registration Set as Second semester Begins Jan. 20

A series of new classes, including Real Estate Law, weekend classes in Business courses of study and two courses being offered at Pocahontas County High School, highlight the spring semester at the Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College which opens Jan. 20.

Registration for the second semester of the 2003-04 will be Jan. 15 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Jan. 16 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to an announcement by Roger Griffith, director of the GVCNRCTC, who adds "If these times are not convenient for any a prospective student, they may telephone during normal business hours to set up an appointment before the Jan. 16 3 p.m. deadline."

Meanwhile, college officials have announced a new Real Estate Law course to be taught on the GVC campus Thursday evenings 7 to 9:50 p.m. by Instructor Gerald Hough of Summersville. This course will serve as continuing education credits for those associated in the real estates businesses in the area, Griffith notes in announcing the class.

The director of the GVC also announced to offering of two classes during the spring semester at Pocahontas County High School. Political Science and Sociology will be offered by GVCNRCTC to the students of PCHS during the school day.

On the Greenbrier Valley Campus, the Business Computer Operator certificate program will be offered as a weekend program as well as during the regular semester. "By taking the classes in Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Databases, Desktop Publishing, Keyboarding, and Computer Problem Troubleshooting, the student can complete the entire certificate requirements on Friday evenings and Saturdays," says Lizabeth Rogers, coordinator of the Professional Office Systems Technology program.

With an enrollment of over 1120 students from throughout the Greenbrier Valley and the neighboring Alleghany Highlands in the fall semester, Griffith anticipate "a record or near record enrollment for the spring. We have students from all corners of the Valley enrolled and urge anyone who has thought about taking classes to do so this spring."

The GVC offers 180 classes in 37 courses of study, using facilities in Greenbrier Hall, the Anex building, Jefferson Office Park, Greenbrier Valley Theatre, Greenbrier Valley Airport, Carnegie Hall, GVC Caldwell building, Monroe County Technical School, Greenbrier West, Greenbrier East, and Pocahontas County high schools as well as Denmar, Anthony, FPC (Alderson) and the Federal Prison in Beckley.

Other dates of importance to GVC students include Jan 13-14 Financial Aid distribution 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with Jan. 14 the last day for early registered students to pay fees; the Jan. 15-16 regular registration; Jan. 20 classes beginning and Jan. 23 the last day for late registration, adding classes and payment of fees.
