to Expand Fund-Raising Skills of Organizations
in McDowell & Raleigh Counties
(BLUEFIELD)--A $10,000 West Virginia Flex-E Grant, recently awarded
to the Bluefield State College Research & Development Corporation, will
help organizations in McDowell and Raleigh Counties enhance their
fund-seeking and fund-raising skills. The grant, written by Ms.
Carrilyn Carey (Comunity Development Specialist/Bluefield State College
Research & Development Corporation) and submitted to the Appalachian
Regional Commission through the BSC R&D Corporation, is entitled
"Writing Successful Grants and Finding Funds Workshops for non-profits
in the Distressed Counties of McDowell and Raleigh. These counties were
included in the grant because of their designation as "distressed
counties" by ARC.
The grant will enable the BSC Research & Development Corporation to
implement several fund-raising and grant writing training workshops in
McDowell and Raleigh Counties. The workshops will focus upon basic
principles of good proposal writing and utilization of online databases
for funding opportunities.
The grant expands the non-profit services of the BSC Research &
Development Corporation. It is designed to assist at least 70
individuals from the public sectors of McDowell and Raleigh Counties to
develop more effective and efficient fund-raising and grant writing
skills, exercise informed decision-making, and augment capacity-building
that will improve the economy of those counties and the state.
