New Awnings Installed on Greenbrier Hall at GVCNRCTC

Five new awnings, each forest green trimmed in white, grace the three most used stairways into Greenbrier Hall of the Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College.

The north, south, and west stairways are now covered with the new all weather awnings. The metal frames for the awnings were sandblasted, repaired, and repainted by the students in the Auto Body classes at Greenbrier East High School in Fairlea. David Williamson, instructor, supervised the students’ work and worked with the maintenance staff of the GVCNRCTC in carrying out the project.

“We are very pleased with the hard work and cooperation shown by the Auto Body students and their instructor in this remodeling project. While doing our best to serve and protect our students and visitors with the awning covered stairways, we have also saved money for the state by working with Mr. Williamson and his students, the manufacturer and our own maintenance staff,” says Roger Griffith, director of the GVCNRCTC.

David Thompson of Rupert, Solomon Simmons of Ronceverte, Ivan Cales of Fort Spring, and Aubrey Houck of Union teamed with the manufacturer to install the new awnings which will protect the 750-plus students who enter Greenbrier Hall, the main office and classroom building for the GVCNRCTC, for classes. “Greenbrier Hall is fully handicap accessable,” Griffith concluded, saying “This just adds to the comfort and safety of our students, old and young alike, in going and coming to classes at the Greenbrier Valley Campus.”
