Center for Applied Research and Technology at BSC
Delivers Presentation to
State Legislature's Joint Technology Committee

(Bluefield)—Professor Bruce Mutter, Director of the Center for Applied Research and Technology at Bluefield State College (BSC-CART), was a featured presenter at the Joint Committee on Technology at the West Virginia Legislature’s December Interim Meeting at the State Capitol earlier this week.

Mutter detailed CART’s mission to the legislative committee chaired by State Delegate Marshall Long. CART was established to provide efficient and effective research contracting, program development, and revenue generation for the BSC School of Engineering Technology and Computer Science, Mutter noted. “CART focuses upon innovation through applied research, transferring technologies to markets, continuing education, and raising funds that will enhance the overall competitiveness of Bluefield State College,” he added.

He highlighted CART’s most recent accomplishments and explained current initiatives, including:
• Four world championships in international ground robotic vehicles competition
• Enrolling over 2000 students in CART’s online Course Management System
• Developing a patented foot laser scanning system for Foot Strategies, LLC
• An exciting new partnership with the Virginia Tech Bioinformatics Institute
• An invited participant to the National Center for Defense Robotics – U.S./Israeli Partnering Summit.

“We are grateful for the invitation from Delegate Long to discuss our successes and our vision for the future,” Mutter commented. The 15-member Joint Technology Committee includes the chairs of the Senate and House Education committees. “This was a unique opportunity for CART and Bluefield State College to provide updates for several key legislators regarding our achievements and our partnership initiatives with regional, national, and international leaders in business and education.”
