BSC vs WVU Tech in Basketball Matchup

Bluefield State College and WVU-Tech share a common goal entering tonight's WVIAC basketball matchup at the BSC's Ned Shott Gymnasium. Both hope to continue their recent trend of improved play.

The Big Blues (1-17 overall, 1-8 in the WVIAC) chalked up their first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Glenville, 72-71. Tech (7-10, 4-5) won its third straight game with Monday's 92-83 win over Glenville. The Golden Bears rely on the inside strength of all-conference performer Rodney Mayes, who averages 23.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Guard Omar London, who paced BSC with 23 points in the win over Glenville, enters tonight's game on a tear, averaging 21.5 points in his last two starts. Center Cory Love paces the Big Blues with a 17.2 point per game average. The Big Blues-Golden Bears' game begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tonight's 5:15 p.m. (February 3) opener between the Lady Blues and Lady Bears finds both teams also sharing a common theme. Both lost to conference power Glenville in their most recent outings. The Lady Blues (2-17, 2-8) suffered an 82-36 loss to the Lady Pioneers on Saturday, while the Lady Bears (5-12, 4-5) fell to Glenville 70-55 on Monday. Taria Jordan and Alison Carney combine for 35 points per game to spark the Tech attack. Senior Meagan Repass (10.7 ppg) leads the Lady Blues.

Students from McDowell, Wyoming, Summers, and Raleigh counties will be admitted to tonight's games, free of charge. BSC and STAR-95 radio are co-sponsoring the event, which will feature merchandise give-aways, contests, and information for potential college students and their families.
