Returning Vets Urged to Participate
in Upcoming Upward Bound Classes

"While the Veterans Upward Bound program is open to any honorably discharged veteran from any branch of the armed services, we are particularly interested in having the returning veterans from the Iraq conflict contact us to see how we can help them help themselves," says Curtis Pauley, director of the Veterans Upward Bound program for the campuses of New River Community and Technical College in Beckley, Nicholas County in Summersville and the Greenbrier Valley in Lewisburg. Special classes will begin Jan. 24 for new participants in the program, with these classes designed to help the returning veteran to "ease into the college classroom and college life," Pauley adds. The classes will be refresher courses in English, Math, and Computers and are free of charge to any honorably discharged veteran.

From these classes the veterans will then continue into College classes with the VUB program giving all kinds of assistance, including tutoring help, throughout the veteran's college career.

The special classes will be offered at the Beckley, Bluefield State College, Nicholas County Campus at Summersville and the Greenbrier Valley Campus at Lewisburg beginning Jan. 24.

Further information on these classes and the VUB program can be obtained by telephoning Pauley's offices in Beckley, 304-255-5866; Nicholas County, 304-872-2006; Greenbrier Valley, 304-647-6583; and the Bluefield State College campus at 304-329-4287. Information can also be obtained about the program on any of the campuses toll free at 1-888-428-0485.
