The executive director of the WV Human Rights Commission will speak at the Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College's first convocation of the spring semester Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. in the Hollowell Auditorium on the first floor of Greenbrier Hall, the main office and classroom building.
Ivin Lee of Hurricane will be using "Come walk with me regarding the issues of the civil rights movement in WV" as her theme for the special presentation.
Open to the public with no admission, this will be the first program on the GVCNRCTC campus for the Black History observance.
Appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the Senate, the executive director of the Human Rights Commission serves as executive secretary for the Commission which is charged by state law to "bring about mutual understanding and respect among all racial, religious, and ethnic groups within the state and shall strive to eliminate all discrimination in employment and places of public accommodation by virtue of race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, age, blindness or handicap and shall strive to eliminate all discrimination in the sale, purchase, lease, rental or financing of housing or other real property.
