Board of Governors Honors Mary Igo;
Terri Baker Takes Oath

Members of the Board of Governors of New River Community and Technical College honored Mary Igo of Summersville for her service as a member representing the classified employees on the first BOG and witnessed the taking of the oath of office by Terri Baker of Ronceverte as the new representative of the classified employees.

Igo, program coordinator for continuing education from the Nicholas County Campus, was presented a plaque of appreciate by BOG Chairman Edward Knight III of Lewisburg.

Baker, program specialist with the Center for Workforce and Business Development on the Greenbrier Valley Campus, took the oath of office as administered by Wanda Johnson of Lewisburg, a notary public and program coordinator with the office of Student Services on the GVC.

Knight was re elected as chairman of the Board along with Vice Chairman William Sherwood of Princeton.

The Board heard reports on the highly successful Emerging Scholars Program on each of the four campuses; the plans for college classes being offered to high school students in area counties; Kids Kollege programs on three of the campuses; and the North Central Association continuing accreditation program.

Carolyn Browning, assistant professor of business on the Bluefield Campus, was named director of the Bluefield Campus and August 15 was set for the next official meeting of the Board of Governors for New River Community and Technical College.

NRCTC serves Mercer, Monroe, Raleigh, Summers, Fayette, Nicholas, Clay, Webster, Greenbrier, and Pocahontas counties as well as neighboring counties in both WV and Virginia from campuses in Beckley at Harper Industrial Park; Bluefield at Bluefield State College; Greenbrier Valley in Lewisburg; and Nicholas County in Summersville.
