“This will allow those students who have earned the certificate in Medical Assisting to return to campus and in one year, earn the Associate degree,” Griffith notes.
“We receive more inquiries for employment in the Medical Assisting field that any other field of study we have in the business department,” Rogers added. “All you have to do is look in the local classified advertisements to see the employment potential in this field.”
In other news, the GVCNRCTC will also be offering Organic Chemistry for the next two semesters to see if there is enough interest in the course which is a requirement for anyone going into the medical professional field.
“Students who are interested in becoming a doctor, dentist, biology major, physician’s assistant, chemical engineering, or seeking a Masters in Nursing need to take this form of chemistry,” notes Dr. John Dynack who will be the instructor for the class which is being offered on Monday and Wednesday evenings 7 p.m. to 9:50 p.m. this fall. The success of this year’s class will determine how often the class could be offered in the future.
Other related courses offered this fall include Introduction to Chemistry, General Chemistry and Lab; EMT-Basic, Introduction to Medical Services, and Pharmacology, General Biology and Lab, and Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology and Lab, Human Anatomy and Physiology and Lab, Microbiology and Lab, and in the Medical Assisting field, Introduction to Medical Assisting, Medical Terminology, Medical Coding/ICD-9-CM, Medical Coding/CPT and HCPCS, Principles of Phlebotomy and Lab, and Ecology, as well as a full schedule of business and office related courses.
