Second Orientation set August 1 at GVCNRCTC

Students who plan to enroll at the Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College for the fall semester are invited to register now for the second and final orientation program scheduled for Aug. 1.

“The orientation program gives the students and their parents or guardians an opportunity to see exactly what the College has to offer and I encourage every prospective student to attend the August 1 sessions if they did not make it to the June 24 session,” said Roger Griffith, director of the GVCNRCTC, in making the announcement of the second program.

On June 24, some 90 students and 60 parents or guardians participated in the various workshops and activity sessions as well as registered for classes for the fall semester.

“We are very pleased with the first orientation,” notes Donna Lewis, program coordinator for career planning and placement with the office of Student Services, who served as chairman for the event. “Our staff members indicate that this group of incoming students may be the best we have ever had. They asked good, intelligent questions and seemed to benefit greatly from the programs.”

Over 30 full and part time faculty and staff members and student workers from the Greenbrier Valley Campus as well as Dr. John Mullens, academic dean of NRCTC and director of the Nicholas County Campus, and Angela Jones, financial aid counselor at the Nicholas County Campus assisted with the orientation.

The Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College serves as the only undergraduate institution of higher education in the Pocahontas, Summers, Monroe, eastern Fayette, and Greenbrier county area.

“Applications for the fall semester are still being accepted and we even have some financial aid available,” Griffith concluded, inviting anyone interested in attending the College to write or visit the campus at 101 Church Street, Lewisburg, 24901, or telephone 304-647-6560 for information on “how we can best serve the prospective student.”
