Betty Woodward to Speak at GVCNRCTC Convocation March 31

Betty Sydenstricker Woodward of Lewisburg, a faculty member at the former Greenbrier College for Women, will be the guest speaker for the annual Women’s History Month convocation at the Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and Technical College on March 31 at 3:15 p.m.

Her husband, the late Dr. Theodore Woodward, was on the faculty at Vanderbilt University before retiring to the Greenbrier Valley where he taught part time at the GVCNRCTC when it was part of Bluefield State College. Mrs. Woodward is a frequent contributor to the GVCNRCTC Library.

Women’s History Month has been observed at the GVC with a photo and memorabilia display in the main hallway on the second floor of Greenbrier Hall, the main office and classroom building for GVCNRCTC.

Featured in the display are photos and publications from the former Greenbrier College, including photos of former faculty members who were also very active in the Greenbrier Valley community. They include Jeanne E. Coyne, Addah Belle McClaskey, Helen Lewis Lindsley, Annie Laurie Lee, Joyce Garner, Mildred Jones Keefe, and Marion C. Carrie.

Mrs. Woodward will be speaking on “Life and Changes” in the Hollowell Auditorium on the first floor of Greenbrier Hall and the public is invited. There is no admission charge.

The public is also invited to visit the second floor history display about the former Greenbrier College for Women at anytime during 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, the times the second floor lobby is open to the public.

The Greenbrier Valley Campus is located in Academy Park on US 60 West at Church Street in Lewisburg.
