( Bluefield)—Sandra “Kay” Thompson, assistant professor of nursing at Bluefield State College, has been named the recipient of the BSC Foundation's "Outstanding Faculty Award" for 2006.

Thompson, who has been a member of the College’s nursing faculty for 25 years, was chosen by her peers to receive the BSC Foundation award, which was presented during the 2006 commencement exercises on May 13. She has made numerous health-related presentations at professional conferences and has been an active community volunteer.

She was previously chosen to receive the “BSC Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award” by a vote of students in the nursing program. Thompson has developed the course, “Introduction to Community Health Nursing,” and she holds membership in several professional organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International nursing honor society.
