( Bluefield)—Advanced Directives—written documents that express an individual’s wishes regarding organ donation, medical power of attorney, living wills, and end-of-life decisions--permit a person’s requests to be observed during life’s most difficult times. On October 17 and for three consecutive Tuesdays thereafter, Bluefield State College Baccalaureate Nursing students will present an “Understanding Advanced Directives” class at Bluefield Regional Medical Center and Princeton Community Hospital. The one-hour class, which begins at 1 p.m. on October 17, 24, 31, and November 7, 2006, is offered free of charge, and all interested individuals are encouraged to attend.
“Our students will explain how Advanced Directives ensure that you know the options and choose what’s best for you and your family, then put it in writing” explained Betty Blevins, BSC Associate Professor of Nursing. “ Whether you're 18 or 80, documenting your wishes today means your family won't have to make heart-wrenching decisions later.” Students will discuss Advanced Directives issues and answer questions. A notary will also be in attendance if any attendees wish to complete Advanced Directives.
The classes will be presented at BRMC in “Conference Room B” and at PCH’s Education Classroom. The same class is repeated each Tuesday (1 p.m.), so that individuals need to attend only one class, and can choose the class that best fits their schedules.
