Summer Research Symposium

Dr. Tesfaye Belay, Bluefield State College Assistant Professor/Research (pictured), and Dr. Anthony Woart, Associate Professor, Sociology and Director, Minority Health Institute, participated in a poster presentation at the West Virginia Idea Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (WV-INBRE) Summer Research Symposium on August 3 in Morgantown.  Dr. Belay is the principal investigator for research initiatives at BSC that involve Chlamydia and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).  He was hired through the Minority Health Institute, directed at BSC by Dr. Woart.  The Chlamydia and STD  research at BSC is supported in part by a grant from the National Center for Research Resources awarded to WV-INBRE.  Dr. Belay intends to expand community-based research to increase public awareness and knowledge of STDs, focus upon factors that contribute to the transmission of STDs, and develop strategies to prevent the spread of STDs.
