( Bluefield)—The biomedical research work of two Bluefield State College students was on display during the recent West Virginia Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence/IdeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (CoBRE/INBRE) Conference at Stonewall Resort.

The work of BSC students Patience Hall and Todd Jamrose, focused upon Chlamydia-related disease was illustrated in posters they created at the two-day event. Dr. Tesfaye Belay, BSC Assistant Professor/Research, provided guidance for the students during their research. Hall, a scholar in the Concord University McNair Scholar Research Program, had previously presented a poster at the National McNair Research Conference in Delaware.

The conference focused upon the theme, “Bioinformatics in Basic and Translational Research.” INBRE (IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence)is a project supported by the National Institute of Health.  The primary emphasis of INBRE is to enhance the competitiveness of biomedical research in West Virginia by supporting the training of students and the research efforts of faculty.

The Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (CoBRE ) supports thematic multidisciplinary centers that augment and strengthen institutional biomedical research capacity by expanding and developing biomedical faculty research capability and enhancing research infrastructure, including the establishment of core facilities needed to carry out the objectives of a multidisciplinary, collaborative program.
