Two BSC Fans Could Win
New ’06 Pontiacs at BSC-WV
State Game, February 23

( Bluefield)—Two Bluefield State College fans could win new 2006 Pontiacs during Thursday's West Virginia State-Bluefield State basketball doubleheader at the Ned Shott Gym.  The "Pontiac Performance Plays Basketball Shot Contest," held at halftime during the February 23 men's game will see a pair of fans (determined by drawing), both of whom will attempt four shots progressively.  By sinking a halfcourt shot (after attempting a layup, foul shot, and three point shot) within the 24-second time limit, a sharpshooting fan can win either a new Pontiac G6 Coupe or Pontiac Torrent from T & T Pontiac-Buick in Bluefield, WV.

Currently enrolled BSC students will have the opportunity to register the contest on the College's Bluefield campus, February 20 through the afternoon of February 23, according to Roy Grimes, BSC's Director of Campus and Intramural Activities.  Non-BSC students can register for the contest at the February 23 BSC-WV State game.  One contestant will be selected from each group.  "It's a progressive shot format," Grimes explained.  "The contestant will have one attempt at the layup, foul shot, three point shot, and midcourt shot, and the shots must be attempted within 24 seconds."  Prizes, ranging from a Pontiac cap for a layup, to two Delta Air Line tickets for a three-pointer, and a new Pontiac ($30,000 value) will awarded for a successful halfcourt shot.  Individuals who register must also be present at the time of the drawing to be eligible to take part in the basketball shot contest.

"Bluefield State College is a member of the American Collegiate Intramural Sports Association," Grimes added.  "This year, Pontiac (ACIS' corporate partner) agreed to provide two new vehicles to 25 ACIS member institutions (selected from a membership of more than 200 colleges and universities) through the basketball shot contest."

BSC athletic director Terry Brown anticipates the promotion will generate an extraordinary level of interest.  "Our rivalry with West Virginia State is one of the biggest on our schedule," he explained.  "By featuring an event like this, we are able to give our fans, our teams, and our college a tremendous amount of positive exposure.  "We are extremely grateful to Tullio Ramella and T & T Pontiac-Buick for participating in this event, and we're very appreciative of the work Roy Grimes has done to put this promotion together."

According to contest rules, the event is open to individuals 18 years of age and older who have a valid drivers license.  Those not eligible to enter include employees, officers, and directors and immediate family members of GM, Pontiac Division, American Hole In One, T & T Pontiac-Buick and their affiliates, persons who have played professional or semi-pro basketball, those who have played collegiate basketball within the past four years or high school level basketball within the past two years, individuals who coach a basketball team in an organized league, and persons who are unwilling or unable to participate in a basketball shot contest.

Grimes also expressed thanks to T & T Pontiac-Buick, as well as Pontiac for its national sponsorship of the program, and ACIS for providing member institutions with the opportunity to host the event.  The Pontiac G6 Coupe and Torrent from T & T will be on display at BSC's Bluefield campus next week.  The BSC-WV State University women's game begins at 5:15 p.m., with the men's game to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Ned Shott Gym.
