Recreational Camp Returns at BSC in June
( Bluefield)—The Bluefield State College Summer Recreational Camp (formerly the National Youth Sports Program summer camp) for area youth, ages 10-16, begins its eighth season at Bluefield State College on June 12. The two-week program concludes on June 23, 2006.
The program is offered free of charge to participants, providing youth with instruction in sports with an emphasis on improving their physical fitness, while also helping participants acquire good health habits and leadership skills. The camp will have daily physical activity and life enrichment programs. All students in the program are required to undergo physical examinations. Free physical exams will be offered at the
Bluefield State College Health Center (Ned Shott P.E. Building/2nd floor) on May 30-June 1 and June 7-8, 4 p.m.-7 p.m. each day. Medical exams will be given with the help of Bluefield Regional Medical Center staff. There will be no medical exams given during the camp.
“Funding for the NYSP program was eliminated this year, but because of the financial support of interetested individuals and organizations in this area, we are able to offer this program again this summer,” noted Grimes. “We are grateful for that support.”
Information regarding the camp can be obtained by contacting Roy Grimes, program director, at (304) 327-4430, or Jennifer Hawks, Program Assistant I, at (304) 327-4187.
