( Bluefield)—At a recent West Virginia Library Association conference, Bluefield State College Archivist Peggy Turnbull and Shepherd University’s Ann Henriksson presented a program that considered children’s use of websites for reference purposes.
Their program, “Smokey the Bear, Canine Heroes, and Ben’s Birthday: Collection Development for Children’s Web-based Reference Resources,” was a featured activity at the WVLA “Spring Fling” in Flatwoods, WV. In addition to considering children’s use of websites as reference resources, their program proposed criteria for evaluating these sites, reviewed recommended sites, and compared options for adding sites—the library catalog and webliographies—to the library collection.
The program was sponsored by the Children’s Services Round Table and the Government Documents Round Table.
