Commemorate International Initiative Collaboration

BSC and CU International Initiative
Several regional and state dignitaries participated in a recent ceremony commemorating the collaborative internationalization initiatives being undertaken by Bluefield State College and Concord University.  Program speakers (left-to-right) included Edward Belcher (Regional Representative for West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin, III), Dr. Albert Walker (BSC President), Dr. Bruce Flack (Director of Academic Affairs/WV HEPC), Dr. Debbie Akers (Superintendent/Mercer County Schools), Norris Kantor (Vice Chair/BSC Board of Governors, Dr. Stephen Rowe (CU Interim Vice President and Academic Dean), Dr. Don Smith (BSC Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost) and Dr. Sudhakar Jamkhandi (Director/Center for International Initiatives at BSC).  The program was held in BSC’s Harris-Jefferson Student Center.


(Bluefield)—A recent ceremony commemorating the collaborative internationalization initiatives being undertaken by Bluefield State College and Concord University attracted more than 75 students and educational leaders from throughout the region and state.  The event, at BSC’s Harris-Jefferson Student Center, detailed the institutions’ progress on a variety of collaborative activities.

Dr. Sudhakar Jamkhandi, Director/Center for International Initiatives at BSC, and Dr. Stephen Rowe, Concord University Interim Vice President and Academic Dean, detailed several goals.  They included:

At the ceremony, Edward Belcher, Regional Representative for West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin, III, brought greetings from the Governor.  Other dignitaries participating in the program included Dr. Bruce Flack (Director of Academic Affairs/WV HEPC), Norris Kantor (Vice Chair/BSC Board of Governors), Dr. Debbie Akers (Superintendent/Mercer County Schools), Dr. Stephen Rowe (CU Interim Vice President and Academic Dean) and Dr. Albert Walker (BSC President).

“This program marks an historic moment,” Dr. Jamkhandi noted.  “The road ahead involves much hard work on the part of both institutions.  Things international affect every academic discipline.  This program will help students understand what’s going on in the world around them.”
