( Bluefield)—Bluefield State College’s Student Government Association (SGA) has just released details of its 2007 “Big Blue Week Celebration,” February 20-24. “Big Blue Week is a time for students to show their support for the College and our teams,” noted Candice Harris, BSC SGA Secretary/Advertising.
The celebration begins on February 20 with a pool party for BSC students, beginning at 11 a.m. The program for BSC students at the BSC swimming pool/Ned Shott P.E. Building includes games, prizes, and free food. The following day, February 21, an 11 a.m. pep rally at the Ned Shott Gymnasium marks the start of the College’s countdown toward Saturday’s (February 24) basketball doubleheader at home against Concord University. “There will be games and prizes, and the entertainment will feature a magician,” Harris added.
On February 22,beginning at 11 a.m. in the Harris-Jefferson Student Center, indoor games, free food, and prizes will be available for students. The BSC Research and Development Corporation’s second annual “Chili Cook-Off” will begin at 11 a.m. on February 23. Gerald James, Director of Business Development for the BSC R&D Corporation and the event’s organizer, observed that taste-testing tickets are on sale, with proceeds to benefit educational enhancement and community outreach programs for BSC. “We want this to be an event that gets people into the downtown area. This year several student organizations are helping and we look forward to the participation of our student body,” he said.
Finally, the Bluefield State College-Concord University basketball rivalry will be renewed on Saturday, February 24, with the women’s game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Ned Shott Gym.
