Dr. Albert Walker Appointed to
Higher Learning Commission Board of Trustees
(Bluefield)—Dr. Albert Walker has accepted appointment to the Board of Trustees of the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Walker, who became Bluefield State College’s 12 th president in 2002, will begin his four year term of service as a member of the Board on September 1, 2007. The Board of Trustees is the policy-making body of the Commission.
“I am honored to have been elected by my peers to serve on the HLC Board,” Dr. Walker stated. “The experience will provide perspective and insight into the process of regional accreditation.
Dr. Stephen D. Crow, HLC President, sent written notification to Dr. Walker, confirming his appointment to the Board. “I am delighted that you have been chosen and that you are willing to serve,” wrote Dr. Crow. “You will find serving on the Board a significant and rewarding experience personally, and I’m sure you will contribute extensively to the innovative thinking that has become a hallmark of the Board’s deliberations.”
The Higher Learning Commission is an independent corporation and one of two Commission members of the North Central Association (NCA) of Colleges and Schools, founded in 1895 as one of six regional institution accreditors in the United States. The HLC accredits and thereby grants membership in the Commission and the NCA to degree-granting educational institutions in a 19-state region that includes West Virginia.
The HLC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
