(Bluefield)—Dr. Robert N. Riggins, Professor of Electrical Engineering Technology at Bluefield State College, has been named the recipient of the BSC Foundation's "Outstanding Faculty Award" for 2007.
Riggins, who has been a member of the College’s engineering technology faculty for more than a decade, was chosen by her peers to receive the BSC Foundation award, which was presented during the 2007 commencement exercises on May 12. He has been very active in academic research, working closely with students in numerous, time-demanding, detailed laboratory exercises, and has been an active community volunteer.
Riggins joined the BSC faculty in August, 1996, after spending 20 years in active duty in the U.S. Air Force. “At BSC, Dr. Riggins has inspired his students to achieve at a level far beyond what their backgrounds and the institution’s resources would otherwise permit,” noted Dr. Albert Walker, BSC President. “He has been a vital leader in world championship robotics initiatives involving our students, and his students have landed leadership roles in business, industry, and nationally recognized graduate level programs.
