Nationally Recognized Researcher
to Address Career Opportunities,
Particularly for Minority
Students in Science

(Bluefield)—Dr. Thomas Landefeld, a former director of the Minority Access Research Center (MARC), will discuss career opportunities particularly for minority students in the sciences, during his October 22 presentation at Bluefield State College.  His program, which begins at 11 a.m. in the Basic Science Auditorium, is open to the public, free of charge.

“We are very fortunate that Dr. Landefeld will be speaking at Bluefield State College,” noted Dr. Tesfaye Belay, BSC Assistant Professor of Biology.  “His topic, ‘Becoming a Scientist:  Considerations for the Minority Student in Choosing a Career in Science,’ is particularly timely for any current or potential college student who is considering a career in this field.”  Landefeld, who also served as an administrator at the University of Michigan Medical School, will detail career opportunities and academic preparations in the sciences.

At 1:00 pm on the same date, he will also speak to BSC faculty, staff, and administrators in the Tierney Center/Dickason Hall, in the addressing the topic, “Keys to Success for Diversity and Recruitment.”  His presentations are underwritten by the Federation of America Societies for Experimental Biology/Minority Access Research Center (FASEB/MARC) program in Bethesda, MD.

Additional information on both programs can be obtained by contacting Dr. Belay by phone (304-327-4549) or e-mail (tbelay@bluefieldstate.edu).
