Building in Bluefield

(Bluefield)—A downtown Bluefield, WV landmark is once again teeming with business activity.  The six-story Bluefield State College Research & Development Corporation building, formerly the site for Appalachian Power Company’s Bluefield offices, currently provides a base of operations for a wide range of business and community service organizations.

“We are gratified that usage of the building has grown so rapidly over the past two years, and we still have commercial space available to support additional business activities,” noted Gerald James, BSC Research & Development Business Director.  “In July, 2005, we welcomed our first two commercial tenants—Stop Abusive Family Environments (SAFE) and HR Directions.  Currently, there are 14 entities occupying 27 rooms within the building.  When our new tenant, STV/Ralph Whitehead and Associates (an engineering form), is fully staffed, there will be more than 40 personnel working out of this facility.  Of the companies in the building, five did not have a presence in West Virginia until they located here.”

“Our goal is to establish a partnership relationship with companies locating in the building, whereby we can help each company grow by providing access to technology, support, and any business expertise they may need and use.  This base of operations this serves as a catalyst for additional outreach programs for the region,” James added.

Companies in the building include the Mercer County Convention and Visitors Bureau, SAFE, the Minority Health Institute, HR Directions, Westaff, A&M Investments, Arcadis-BBL, STV/Ralph Whitehead and Associates, InfoTech Systems, Four Seasons Wireless, WOL, the BSC Research & Development Corporation, and two groups utilizing the facility for storage purposes.
Robert Blasland, who directed the Arcadis-BBL search effort for a new location, observed, “We were very pleased to find a location in Bluefield with the level of amenities, security, and access to technology that has completely suited our company’s needs.”

The building also features an auditorium, conference room, classrooms, and a computer training lab available for lease.  Several regional organizations use the facilities within the building for meetings, dinners, receptions, banquets, and training events.  Additional information can be obtained by contacting Gerald James @ (304) 327-4300.
