(Bluefield)—The attendees at a recent “Investing for Women” workshop in Ashland, WV received a wealth of information for future financial security. Dr. Elaine Scott, Dean of the Bluefield State College School of Business, facilitated the discussion. Topics included budgeting, wise use of credit, investment pyramid, stocks, bonds, mutual funds and retirement planning.
Event organizers presented the workshop to give local women ideas and options to get the greatest return on their investments in order to add to financial security.
Financial security is a national focus and the local Stop Abusive Family Environments (SAFE) program in McDowell County recently received a grant from the Allstate Foundation with the focus on financial literacy for domestic violence victims. A number of SAFE residents attended this workshop.
Attendees were given a notebook of the training information, a gift bag and a CD with the book “Women and Money” by Suze Ormon at the end of the day.
This workshop was held at the Ashland Company Store and sponsored by Travel Beautiful Appalachia, Inc. (TBAI) as part of their goal to offer various training opportunities for the residents of McDowell, Wyoming and Mercer counties. Individuals interested in specific training programs are encouraged to contact Debbie Bailey, TBAI Director, at (304) 862-3364.
