The Bluefield State College chapter of Phi Eta Sigma (the national honor society for freshmen) welcomed its newest members in a recent induction ceremony at BSC. Bluefield)—The Bluefield State College chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, the national honor society for freshmen, inducted 13 students and two faculty members into the Society during a recent ceremony at BSC. Only those freshmen who have earned at least 12 credits with a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale are eligible for membership. This achievement places these students in the top two percent of all freshmen at Bluefield State. Parents and family of the inductees attended the session, along with current chapter members.
Students inducted included: Rhea Kaye Anderson (Grundy, VA); Lyndsey LeAnna Brown, Barbara M. Coburn, and Daniel J. Dillon (Princeton, WV); Scottie Ray Dingus, Joshua D. Lane, and Joseph M. Perhealth, Jr. (Bluefield, WV); Brandon R. Harvey (Jesse, WV); Jennifer N. Johnson (Northfork, WV); Erik Z. Meadows (Daniels, WV), Sorsha K. Perkins and Amanda Leigh Simons (Peterstown,WV), and; Julie A. Weikle (Sinks Grove, WV).
Roy E. Pruett, Jr. (Professor & Department Head/Electrical Engineering Technology) and Dr. Howard P. Wade (Associate Professor/History) were also inducted during the formal program at the Hebert Gallery/Harris-Jefferson Student Center.
The program also featured the presentation of book scholarships, which were awarded to the Phi Eta Sigma member holding the highest grade point average in each class. Those recipients were: Jennifer Johnson (Freshman); Julie Weikle (Sophomore); Karen Thompson (Junior), and; Sheila Hughes (Senior).
The induction ceremony was conducted by Chapter Advisor John Cardwell, Vice President for Student Affairs, Co-Advisor E. Ralph Patsel, Jr., retired Registrar/Director of Institutional Research, and Chapter Vice President Larry Weatherby. BSC President Dr. Albert Walker also extended congratulations to the inductees at the conclusion of the ceremony.
