19 Students Inducted into BSC
Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma Honorary Society

The Bluefield State College chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, the national honor society for freshmen, inducted 19 students into the Society in a recent ceremony at the College. Only students who have earned at least 12 credits with a grade point average of 3.5-4.0 are eligible for membership. This achievement places these students in the top two percent of all freshmen at BSC.

Student members inducted during the ceremony included Samuel H. Adams, IV (an Architectural Engineering Technology major from Westminster, MD), Marie Akers (a Secretarial Science major from Bluefield), Kevin Guy Bland (a General Business major from Lewisburg), Todd A. Blevins (a General Education major from Beckley), Michael L. Carter (a Law Enforcement major from Bluefield, VA), Leah Rae Cook (a General Education major from Leslie), Ryan C. Cook (an Electrical Engineering Technology major from Jessee), Amanda Leigh Fragile (a Social Science major from Welch), Robert Joseph Given (a General Education major from Prosperity), and Shirley A. Harless (a Corrections major from Bluefield).

Other inductees included Jodi Leigh Heffinger (a General Education major from Anawalt), Michael Warren Hefner (a Corrections major from Ronceverte), David Lee Hines (a General Business major from Crumpler), Erica K. Hunter (a Corrections major from Williamsburg), Frances Lucinda King (a Humanities major from Bland, VA), Joey E. Palmer (a General Education major from Gap Mills), Lorynda Kay Patterson (a General Business major from White Sulphur Springs), Stephanie Elaine Quick (a General Education major from Bluefield), and Catherine Lee Smith (a General Business major from Pratt).

Two faculty members and one staff member were also inducted as honorary members. They included Carol A. Cofer (Program Director of the Associate Degree Nursing program, Shelia Hallman-Warner (Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice), and Michael M. Palm (Director of Student Services at the Greenbrier Community College Center of BSC at Lewisburg.

The induction ceremony was conducted by Chapter Advisor John Cardwell (interim Vice President for Student Affairs) and Co-advisor E. Ralph Patsel, Jr. (Registrar). Others participating in the ceremony included Chapter Vice President Amy Hill, honorary Phi Eta Sigma faculty members Melissa Haye (Program Director of Radiologic Technology), Dr. Sudhakar Jamkhandi (Director of the Center for International Understanding), Michael Lilly (Chairman of the Division of Business), and John Snead (Associate Professor of Business).

BSC President Dr. Robert Moore closed the ceremony by bringing congratulatory remarks to the inductees.
