Program Director Sarita Gattuso noted that the BSC EOC has served more than 3,000 students since opening its doors in September, 1994. "We are excited to be selected again for funding to continue serving southeastern West Virginia," she said. "There is a tremendous need in our area to help first-generation, low-income adults obtain a college education. We look forward to a successful program that will take us into the new millennium."
The EOC is a federally-funded program designed to enhance access to higher education for educationally and economically disadvantaged persons. It provides information about financial and academic assistance for those persons pursuing postsecondary education, and furnishes assistance in completing forms for admission and for financial aid.
The EOC program at Bluefield State College's campuses in Bluefield, Beckley and Lewisburg serves seven counties (Mercer, Monroe, Pocahontas, Greenbrier, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming). Program participants must be at least 19 years of age, in need of EOC services, and reside in the seven-county target area. Individuals seeking additional information may call the Educational Opportunity Center offices on the BSC campuses in Beckley (304-255-5955), Bluefield (304-327-4400), or Lewisburg (304-647-7443).
